Our Story

A lifelong passion for food, wine and coffee eventually lead Alan Phillips to roast speciality coffee by the sea in County Meath.

Alan is a certified member of the European Speciality Coffee Association, he learnt his craft from one of the best in the business, training under Kees Kraakmann of Amsterdam's Keppler Coffee.

When he launched The Studio it was very much in line with Kees' ethos of quality and consistency.

Alan explains that originally when they setup the business they imported beans from only Ethiopia and El Salvador.

“An indication of how the business has grown, nowadays we import coffee from 14 countries, mostly small farms in Africa, Central America & South America and roasted as single origin lots on our 15kg Giesen .

And it is really great that we still source from two farms in Ethiopia and El Salvador that we started with. Those coffees are top,top quality, award winners and they have a very loyal following.”

Sustainable Approach

The Studio's sustainable approach to coffee sourcing is mirrored at their roastery.

Part of the power usage is renewal energy.

Most of the coffee sacks are made with paper and recycled.

Waste coffee chaff is shared with a local farmer for use on his crops.
